Part Number: AAM-978
Entirely hand assembled, the castings used in this exact replica flint musket were molded directly from the original parts of an antique musket in a museum, by The Rifle Shoppe. This musket was neatly made by Kit Ravenshear.
Stocked in military style, the forend is a bit shorter than the barrel, giving the fingers a good grip on the ramrod. Notice the wooden rod, light, efficient, but replaced by a heavy steel rod on later models. Steel rod pipes and a steel tip finish the ramrod. A band of steel serves as a forend cap, to protect the end grain in hard use. A simple front sight blade is the only sight on this musket, and acts as a bayonet lug. A bayonet is included with this musket.
An early barrel band of steel supports the front sling swivel, and acts as a third ramrod pipe. This musket uses pins and lugs to retain the barrel. Later muskets abandoned pins and lugs, and relied on multiple barrel bands to retain the barrel to stock. This is still true for military guns.
The 44-3/4" barrel is tapered octagon-to-round with a sixteen flat transition to the wedding band. The smooth bore measures .66" ID, which is comparable to 16 gauge.
